Meet Jeff Oppenheim

 
 

Jeff Oppenheim, (Writer, Director, Producer, Journalist and Host), is an award-winning, internationally distributed filmmaker. His most notable productions include the art-crime documentary: “Real Fake: The Art, Life and Crimes of Elmyr de Hory” (Producer/Director/Editor), released by Gravitas Ventures (2018); “Kuduro NYC” (Executive Producer), screened at The TriBeCa Film Festival (2013) and winner of both Dance on Film East and West; “Absolute Funk”, (Produced with Reginald Hudlin), screened at the Apollo Theater, NYC in celebration of George Clinton's 70th Birthday All-Star Concert (2011); “A Passion for Giving” (Co-Producer/Editor), aired nationally on PBS (2009); and the romantic comedy (2005) “Funny Valentine” (Writer/Director/Producer) for Universal Pictures. 

His most recent work, “Superheroes & Other Men” brought Jeff back to the stage in a one-man show that he also wrote. The original work was directed by Obie-winner Byron C. Saunders and produced by Alibe Hamacher., The performance monologue was workshopped at the Blue Room in NYC and then was nominated as an official selection of the prestigious theater festival, The One Fest. The show is currently being developed for a limited Off-Off-Broadway run and adapted into a documentary series.

He is the Founder and Executive Producer of @suite24k, a NY-based production company that has envisioned and produced international digital and branded content campaigns for a variety of companies and non-profit organizations. He has produced week-long festivals, concerts, and international tours including an arts festival for the grand reopening of The Queens Museum of Art, the “Os Kuduristas” campaign, for Angola, Africa, and “STAT! for NYC Public Hospitals” under Mayor Michael Bloomberg. Among the many live gala events he has produced, is the 2009 Inaugural Party of President Barack Obama in Washington, D.C. at the Newseum.

His work in film is complemented by his experience producing concerts and live broadcasts of musical performances including the 2015 season of “Lincoln Center Out-of-Doors” and the “Mostly Mozart: A Little Night Music” series that broadcast live from the world-renowned performing arts center. Other concert-producing credits include “A Night of Salsa with La India,” relaunching the long-reigning Salsa queen; “Jubilant Praise” a  Gospel concert featuring Bishop Hezekiah Walker, Valerie Boyd, and Richard Smallwood; “A night of R&B, Gospel and Blues,” headlining The Temptations; and the “Absolute Funk” 70th Birthday Concert for George Clinton of Parliament-Funkadelic, at the Apollo Theater in NYC co-produced in association with Ray Chew (Music Director of ABC's “Dancing with the Stars” and Fox's “American Idol”). The concert featured an all-star line-up including original members Bootsy Collins and Bernie Worrell. 

He founded, curated, and served as host of Other Voices, a not-for-profit literary organization, in memory of his father Philip Canavan Oppenheim. Over the course of the 10 years he ran the organization, he produced nearly 100 literary events celebrating poets, fiction writers, playwrights, and lyricists. Other Voices became the first American literary organization to celebrate the work of writers lost to AIDS. Jeff also created the youth-focused artist-in-residency program Voices Found, which sent writers, artists, and youth mentors to work with children with HIV and AIDS. The organization published an anthology of children’s poetry and art as an awareness initiative, for which Jeff served as editor. 

As a journalist he has served as an anchor and moderator for broadcasts for the Foreign Press Association, and as host and storyteller of the YouTube series “Unprecedented Journey” and “Tomorrow’s Journey.”  He has written for several magazines and online publications, most recently Routes Magazine, a guide to African American culture and Artist Management Magazine. An articulate and grounded communicator, he has served as a guest moderator at numerous functions including Concordia Summit, across a broad range of topics. His voice can also be heard in a variety of commercials and narrations. Subsequently, he has created his unique brand of public speaking and media training and continues to successfully present this program to Fortune 500 companies and major law firms nationwide.
